ad popups & messages from Security Center

I run a complete scan with Norton's 2006 System Works each week and started
getting messages that I might be infected by 'Blackworm' and that private
information was being sent to a remote computer. I have also started getting
ad popups. I have run System Works twice and it reported no problems. I
downloaded SpyBot and all it found was some cookies which I deleted and the
messages about the system intrusion. I then download Ad-Aware SE and all it
found was some cookies and a suspect entry in Favorites. I let it fix
(delete) all the suspect files, but I'm still getting the popups and
'Blackworm' messages.

Has anyone had similar problems and solved them? Ideas anyone?

You don't nessessarly have this trojan, but it is good for finding
things others miss.

Also, make sure that you're disconnected from the internet, and
preferably in safe mode, when you do the scans.
Also, see if Symantec has a specific cleaner for this
"Blackworm" on their website.
You might also consider posting a HijackThis log to a few good forums,
and see if some of the pros can find something.

The problem has been solved. It was a Vundo Virus!
