AD Not responding corrupt database, how do I bring it back?

2 Servers. 1 AD with Exchange on it. The other a an IIS server. AD
Server services will not start after unscheduled power outage and
defective UPS.

I have booted into AD recover safe mode and attempted to recover with
NTDSUTIL, it starts soft recovery and tells me the operation completed
successfully. Boot into Normal and still no AD. Back to AD Restore
and attempt esentutl as MS suggests but the syntax in their KB is not
what this server is apparently wanting. I played with some switches
and added edb after the /r switch and it performed another soft
recovery. one time it gave me an error of page file and database size
do not match? Maybe I was using the wrong switch.

Long story short it would be nice to have AD running again so I could
start my Exchange services. If I have to remove AD from the server and
re-install AD to the same server how will this impact the Exchange box?
(There is only about 10 users) A Lot of exchange use and no user
PST's on the work stations.

Any Ideas?

Thank You.

Hi

Did the power outage cause damage to both servers? I'm a little un clear as
to which one/or both, is having problems.

If the Exchange box is fine, you should be able to go into Directory
Services Restore Mode (while disconnected from the network), remove directory
services using DCPROMO (possibly a force removal), then seize FSMO roles on
the exchange box, cleanup metadata for the failed server, re join the failed
server to the domain, and DCPROMO back to Domain Controller Status.

If there are any specific error messages, post them on here, as that will
help to get the problem sorted.

Sorry there's no immediate answer, but with a little more info, hopefully
get things going.

Thanks
Dan

Exchange is on AD Box (not where I would have put it) power outage
only caused problem with 1 server, specifically to the Active
directory data base. Exchange should be fine but without AD running I
cant start the services for exchange. The AD/Exchange box powers up
(After an inordinate amount of time) only about 1 third of the
services come back on line automatically though. I have to start the
rest manually except exchange which only a few of them start. (POP 3,
and a couple of others)

When the services are started sans exchange the AD snap in has nothing
in it.

Event viewer has event code 1168, error 1053

And

Domain controller could not be located type of messages.

????????????????????????????????????????????
