Guys,

I have been plugging away on an exchange 2k box working great. I go to add
another user and went into her workstation and setup her mail and her
account would not find name.

The exact message is "The name could not be resolved. The name could not be
matched to a name in the address list"

I have tried another user and she did not work either. I went to a known
good pc and tried removing the mail profile and adding another and this did
not work. I went back and added a user that has been there forever and she
could not resolve. I need some help please guys.

Thanks,

Brad Wilson

You can try the following

1. Do an ipconfig /all on the client
2. Ping your gateway if you cannot then you have a network issue.
3. Check if you can ping all your dns servers (If you cannot that is the
problem).
4. If you can ping them try nslookup <your domain name> (Primary DNS suffix
from your ipconfig)
5. If nslookup does not return a list of addresses then you the DNS servers
are again your problem
6. If nslookup works then try ping <your domain name>
7. If this does not work then your domain controller(s) are likely down. (If
you want to be a 100% sure then you need to use a tool like ldp to search
for the user account).
8. If that did work then you need to look at your Exchange server. (ping,
lookup and check status)

All of this seemed to work great. I tried LDP but I must be a rookie
because I couldn't get anything out of that. Anymore that you would try.

The only possibilities that I can think of are
1. RPC issues between the client and the Excahnge Server (Firewall on the
client needs to allow the mail client)
2. There are issues with the Exchange server (how does the event log look)
3. If you have a large org you could have replication issues but this is a
long shot because an old user did not work)

I have tried all kinds of things. Everything looks real good for exchange
and other items. Users can send and receive. Users can see other users in
exchange GAL. DNS on clients is set to server. This is only a problem when
adding a new user. I now get an error message on recepient update services
in EX2K. Is there a online EX2K MS tech that would write me back and forth
like you have?

Unlikely on this list. Maybe on microsoft.public.exchange2000.general. This
may happen because the RUS is not stamping the user objects but I cannot be
sure. Could you send me the event details and also if it is recurring.

Couldn't get anything with the LDP stuff so I uninstalled some hotfixes that
we installed from the update site yesterday and stuff came up in LDP. I
went and did not see a child object. RUS sounds very likely because it
continues to tell me nothign else will run while pushing a rebuild.
