Ad Aware SE Personal prevents networking on XP... does MS Spyware?

I have a desktop (wired) and a laptop (wireless), both running latest
Windows XP Home edition w/all updates, clean system reinstall as of two
days. I have a Linksys router as a network hub.

Had to remove Ad Aware from systems to get file/print sharing to work. Want
to try MS version, but want to make sure it will not prevent networking.

Anyone have an answer to this one? I run Norton anti-virus on both
computers. Wireless also has Norton Internet Security, which I have to
disable to allow file sharing.

I have used adaware personal at work in my network
enviroment (ran on 32 pcs and 3 servers) I never had any
issues with it affecting network components. Could it be
possible you had some spyware that latched onto the FnP
and adaware quaratined.

Anyway. MS seems to work great. I think the Adaware
purchased version is better though. Might be personal
preference

I agree with your other reply--this is a mystery to me--I've run Ad-aware on
dozens of machines, all networked, and never had the slightest issue about
it. Can't imagine what the issue might be--unless it is some software
conflict with the particular drivers involved or something--in which case
I'd bet that the vendor would rev the drivers fast.

Microsoft Antispyware should be similarly neutral about networking--it needs
it, of course, for reporting and updating, so it isn't intended to
interfere.

You should be able to tell NIS to allow file and printer sharing on the
local subnet and protect your machines against Internet traffic. The router
already gives you good protection against intrusions from the outside.
