Activites ... tab in Contacts Properties window

Outlook 2007 ... going to the contacts property windo (contact, right click,
properties, activities tab) ..

When I open the Activities tab and modify the folders to be searched for
each area (email, conacts, etc) I am only able to click Okay ... not Apply.
So, when I check a few days later under this same Activities tab the
modification for email, journal, and all items have disappeared and the
folder column is empty for those items.

Why don't my modifications stay for all the areas and why can't I select
Apply?

Thanks

By "contacts property window," do you mean the Properties dialog for your own
default Contacts folder? Is that folder in an Exchange mailbox or .pst file?
Outlook version?

I think the Apply button is active only if you've changed the default
Activities view.

Outlook 2007 ... in a window, for example, showing the business card view...I
right click on the bar above the contacts that says Contacts and has the
search feature. When I right click I select Properties ... I then select the
activities tab ... in that tab are a list of options on the right side ...
email, contact, calendar and tasks, journal... if I select one of these and
click modify I am able to assign folders that will be checked for each of
these areas (email, etc). I then click okay and it closes. When I go back
the next day, those folders I assigned it to check are blank except for the
calendar and tasks and contacts. So I have to reset the email, journal. Why
is it not saving my modifications?

Our contacts are on an exchange server. We all work on the same list of
contacts in our office. Our email is on an exchange server. All the
calendars are shared but any item linked to a contact is specific to that
computer, not the server.

Hope this clarifies the question.

What you are describing is the Properties dialog for the folder.

What exactly do you mean by that? Are you all using the same Exchange
mailbox? Is this a folder named Contacts that resides in a public folder?
These are important details, because only the folder owner can make a
permanent change to the Activities groups for a folder.

The Contact folder is in a Public Folder. When we make changes to the
contacts in this folder, everyone sees the changes.

I went to each person's computer and set the folders for the activities to
search. But as with my computer, the options I set disappear.

Repeating: Only someone with Owner rights to the folder should be making
changes to the Activities groups. Do you have those rights?

Also, note that if your goal is to have the contacts' Activities show the
data in each user's own mailbox, that's not going to be possible. In a public
folder, the best you can do with Activities groups is have them pointed at
public folders, with one folder per group.

Sue,

Sorry this seems to be so confusing, let me try one more time.

First, my goals is to be able to open a person's contact (the contacts are
in a public folder and we all have access to the contacts on the public
folder ... let me ask a question here...under calendars I set the sharing
level to editor...is there such a setting for contacts?) ... and go to the
Activities tab.

What should appear (and does right after I modify the settings) are all the
emails, tasks, calendars, journal entries from MY computer to this contact.
This should be the same for each person in our office.

The Contact folder in the Activities group is set to search the contacts in
the public folder.

So when the settings are in the Activities group and the email is set to
search the Inbox, etc. all items that I've sent or appointments made, etc
will show up. Each person in our office will only see the emails they have
sent to this contact, or the appointments they have set with this contact.

I'm not sure what you mean by .... "In a public
folder, the best you can do with Activities groups is have them pointed at
public folders, with one folder per group."

Sorry this keeps going, but I eager to find the answer as to why the setting
in the Activities tab will not stay.

I guess I didn't make myself clear enough, so let me try again: A contacts
folder in the Public Folders hierarchy does not have the ability to do what
you're trying to do -- maintain Activities groups for items stored in
individual mailboxes.

In other words, the folder is not retaining the setting, because you're
trying to make it do something it is not designed to do or capable of doing.
