I am running XP Home version on an HP notebook PC. It was working fine, now
it is slow, especially when booting up. I think it is infected with a virus,
but I can't run my new Norton virus program because when i try to go to
their site to have my system scanned prior to installing, as instructed, I
get a messge "Your current seting prohibit running activex controls on this
page. As a result the page may not display correctly."I get this same
message on other sites, and it always prohibits me from scanning my PC fopr
a virus. i have Set my security setting to "Low" from Medium, and have even
set them manually. but it does no good. what can I do? \i really need to
scan for viruses but can't, getting the same message when i try online
scanning sites, or try loading Norton.

Thanks

Billy

Launch Internet Explorer.
1. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
2. Click the Security tab.
3. In the Select a Web content zone to specify its security settings box,
click Internet.
4. Under Security level for this zone, if the security level is set to High,
move the slider down to Medium.
If it is not possible for security concerns to move the slider to Medium,
then follow these steps:
1. Under Security level for this zone, click Custom Level. The Security
Settings dialog box appears.
2. Under the ActiveX controls and plug-ins subsection Download signed
ActiveX controls, click either Enable or Disable.
3. The computer will still be protected from unwanted intrusions while
allowing legitimate program operations to proceed.
4. Click OK to close the Security Settings dialog box. Click Yes if prompted
to confirm the change.
5. Click Apply, and then OK to close the Internet Options dialog box.

I did as instructed with the same results....I had already tried setting my
security level to low, with no good results. Can you suggest something else?

thanks....
