activesync keeps disconnecting

I have 2 computers that I sync my ipaq handheld to. My home computer using
XP works fine but my office computer with win2k always has problems. It
connects and gets half way through the synchronization then it disconnects
(as if I had disconnected the ipaq midway into the process). It will then
reconnect on its own and try again. After several of these sessions it will
finally synchronize but it is a huge nuisance. I have 2 usb ports on the
computer. The ipaq is plugged directly into one port and I have a hub
connected to the other port for other things. I tried disconnecting the hub
completely thinking maybe something was competing for the port but no luck.
Any suggestions?

What version of Outlook and ActiveSync are we talking about? What are the
exact errors?
Tried it with the recently released ActiveSync 4.0 already?
