ActiveSync 3.8 -> 4.2 ... Partnership Problems

I've been successfully using ActiveSync 3.8 with my Dell Axim X30 (PPC
2003SE) for 2 years. I just recently upgraded to ActiveSync 4.2 but now it
treats my Axim as a Guest and I can find no way to get it to establish a
partnership with it.

Is it possible to do so?

Yes, it's possible. You might try looking for answers in
microsoft.public.pocketpc.activesync (you can use GoogleGroups to search
there, just like you can in this group). Why did you upgrade? You don't
get anything for doing that. Underneath, the 3.8 code is still running for
PPC2003SE devices...

Ah! You might do a search on msdn.microsoft.com for "guest and activesync".
I don't recall the specifics, but I seem to remember some files that, if
present or missing, can cause that.

AS shouldn't be using 127.0.0.1, at least on WM5 devices...
