Active X

My daughter is using AIM on an ME computer, and, recently, every single time
anyone sends her an instant message, she gets a dialog box that says

"Your current security settings prohibit running Active X controls on this
page, As a result, the page may not display correctly."

On the security tab in Internet Explorer (6.0.2800.1106), we tried disabling
every mention of Active X, and even rebooted, but it has not helped.

Do you know what other settings may be causing this problem? Also, since I
forget which she disabled, which of these Active X features should I enable?

Thank you very much!

From looking at an old post, I am starting to realize that choosing disable,
which I figured lessens my security, does just the opposite, tightens our
security! We just tried setting them all to enable, and things seem better,
Can someone tell me what the 5 settings about Active X really should be set
to?

Thanks!

For the Internet zone, I would recommend all set to disable. This will
cause that pop up for every site which wants to run "DestructiveX", er, um,
"ActiveX" controls.

For those sites which you trust, put the site in the "Trusted sites" zone.
The ActiveX setting for this zone can be:

Download signed ActiveX controls
Enable

Download unsigned ActiveX controls
Disable

Intialize and script ActiveX controls
Disable

Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins
Enable

Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting
Enable

I want to emphasize that enabling those ActiveX controls which I have
indicated should only be done for sites in the Trusted sites zone list.

As I mentioned, she uses AIM a lot (instant messaging)and is having this
trouble with that. Since no URL appears, I am unsure of how to list AIM in
her "trusted sites" list. Can someone clue me in on that?

Thanks!

I think I would start by adding "aol.com". I see a connetion to
oam-m15b.blue.aol.com, so, if you don't want to give all of aol.com free
reign, try "blue.aol.com". But I suspect that it is in the scripting for
the pop up which displays on signing in, and that appears to be a normal
web page. So "aol.com" may be the addition that will calm the popups.

Thank you - we'll give that a try.
