Active X setting

After running Spybot and got rid of the unwanted, now I encountered a new
problem, that is I cant even go to any websites or open the IE. It gives a
message "your security setting prohibits running active x as a result it
cannot display...."
I have tried the following
1/ set the security tab to "default level" button
2/ clear all the "delete files/delete cookies" in the TIF
3/ KB319585 but dont sems to get all what it says such as under quote:

"Remove the Windows Update ActiveX controls"
1. Click Start, and then click Search.
2. Click More Advanced Options, and then click to select the Search hidden
files and folders check box. ...unquote
I cannot find "Advance Options"

So, can someone advice how can I see any of the web pages. I cannot even use
Mozilla. Desperado..... thanks

Search
Make sure Search window is maximized.
"What do you want to search for?"
"All files and folders"
At the bottom of the left-hand pane, click: "More advanced Options"
Check "Search hidden files and folders"
Based on what you are trying to do, and without perhaps understanding why
you are trying to do it, I suggest that you:
Post back here before proceeding and let us know where you found your
instructions (the web address) so we can verify it is the right thing to do.

think first you need to be able to see hidden files otherwise you will not
see anything in Search that's hidden even with the Advanced Option clicked
Windows XP
Display hidden files
1. Click Start, click My Computer, click Tools, and then click Folder
Options.
2. Click the View tab.
3. Under Advanced settings, click Show hidden files and folders.
4. Under Advanced settings, click to clear the Hide protected
operating system files (Recommended) check box.

the first step was: Display hidden files.
Be sure you do this first, as "Bumtracks" has recommended.
I suggest you print out the section called "Remove the Windows Update
ActiveX controls" read it twice, and highlight the most important phrases,
so you can do exactly what is required, as a mistake could cause problems.
I will post the relevant part in a post following this post, and you can
print it out.

Remove the Windows Update ActiveX controls

1. Click Start, and then click Search.

2. Click More Advanced Options, and then click to select the Search hidden
files and folders check box.

3. Type iuctl.dll and iuengine.dll, and then click Search.

4. If these files are found in your C:\Windows\System32\Dllcache folder,
delete them.

5. If these files are found in any folder other than C:\Windows\System32,
delete them.

6. After you have deleted all other copies of these files, delete them from
the C:\Windows\System32 folder.

7. If you are prompted to insert the Windows XP installation CD-ROM, click
Cancel.

Note: You will download newer versions of the files from the Windows Update
Web site.

8. When you are prompted to answer if you want to keep the unrecognized file
versions, click Yes.

9. Visit the Windows Update Web site and install new copies of the ActiveX
controls.

For line 3, quote "Type iuctl.dll and iuengine.dll," and then click Search
do you search this as a line line or do 2 search? Can I use Restore Point to
solve this problem? TIA

Hi su su. The instructions intend that you do 2 searches.

Yes, you may be able to use the Restore Point to resolve the problem.
Questions:
1. Can I assume you did get the message: "Software update incomplete"?
2. It was not clear from the article, but did you get this message just
from visiting the Update site, not after an actual Update?
3. The only problem with System Restore is that you would have to pick a
Restore Point. If you do not change your settings and applications often,
then you could go back a ways, to around the last time you successfully
visited the Update site. Can you do this?
If Yes to all three issues, try a System Restore.

I try to go "windowsupdate" by start/prog or start and you normal see
"windowsupdate" - but in both cases I cannot go there so I have not seen
"software update incomplete" message
I do not change settings or prog often, so I will try RPoint. Many thanks
