Active X Control?

While I was away on business, my husband has inadvertently downloaded a malicious program which has hijacked IE to its search website, even though we have repeatedly changed the home page in preferences. I ran Norton SystemWorks which identified the file as an active X control (and found no virus infection). I attempted to remove it with Norton, but since the application starts on the boot and that file is always in use, I cannot remove it. Is there any method I, an intermediate level user, can employ to rem this file out of the boot registry? I have never gone into the registry before and feel rather intimidated by the prospect. Or should I simply take my computer to the shop and pay them to do it? BTW, the suspect application file is windec32.dll and it takes you to a website called "I-lookup."

You might give this a try.

I forgot to add that the process does not show on the task manager and I cannot recognize it on the processes tab.

Thanks to all who wrote to suggest help or forwarded
software updates (mine were current at the time of this
incident). I have corrected the problem, I hope, and put
the fear of the Lord in my husband that a firewall is only
as good as the operator at the keyboard.
