Active Directory wont see domain controller

We had a powercut and also the c drive ran low on hard disk space and since
then there has been something strange going on.

Ive cleaned up the C drive, but when i log on to the domain controller and
try to open active directory and users or anything to do with the domain it
says.

"the list of domain controllers for domain exchange.local is nuavailable
because no authority could be contacted for authentication"

Any ideas?

The NTDS.DIT is a database. When the log files for the database fill up you
can run into corruption. Short answer to fix the problem would be to perform
an authoritative restore if this is the only DC or DCPROMO the server down
and DCPROMO it back up if this is one of two or more DCs (provided the other
DCs are not experiencing the same problem). However, should a restore not be
an option, you can repair the database much the same way you can repair an
Exchange system database. In this case the primary tool for analysis and
repair is NTDSUTIL.

Using NTDSUTIL you can perform and Integrity check on the file or
performance a Semantic check on the database. Both can be run to examine and
log or to perform repairs. For the NTDSUTIL integrity check you open a
command prompt, type NTDSUTIL. Once in the command line interface you type
File Maintenance and Integrity. Now, you have to be booted in Active
Directory Recovery Mode to be able to perform all of the integrity and repair
operations. ALSO, you will want to perform a System State backup prior to
doing any such work with AD. (Note NTDSUTIL has many other uses that do not
require being booted in AD recovery mode -that is simply the nature of this
particular integrity check process).

Here is a link to more information:

http://www.microsoft.com/resources/...server/reskit/en-us/distrib/dsbi_add_mhau.asp

Once at the link above check out the Advanced Troubleshooting and under that
the Database Issues. READ THE ENTIRE Article prior to proceeding. AGAIN,
you will want to perform a System State backup prior to doing any such work
with AD. This would be advisable even though you feel the database is not
all that healthy to start with - at least it is working (sort of). Some of
the operations could result in making the database inoperable - an
unfortunate side affect of trying to repair particular types of corruption.

Good luck!
