Active Directory Users and Computers MMC freezes up quite often

I have this DC with win2k sp4 and the latest patches, and quite often when I
launch 'Active Directory Users and Computers' MMC and click on any objects
on it (be it OU, container, user... whatever) the whole computer freezes up
and wouldn't respond to anything, even the mouse cursor stops. I have no
antivirus software or firewall, internet connection is forwarded to another
computer, no error can be seen in the event log, and I've done virus checks
with web-based scanners (like those free scans on McAfee site) and no virus
came up.

I believe the domain is set up correctly, both forward and reverse lookup
zones are set up correctly, DHCP server (my DC also does DHCP) is working,
and I don't see why the machine stops responding. No amount of waiting does
anything, and when I finally give up, reboot and take a look at the event
log again, it does show that the computer was unexpectedly shut down.

Has anyone had similar experiences? any solution?

Thanks in advance!

Andrew

This probably isn't a DNS issue but here's what to check. Make sure the DC only points to itself for DNS. Do not point at the ISP
for DNS. Make sure the forward lookup zone for the AD is set to allow dynamic updates. Make sure the server is able to
register in this zone. Check the system log for netlogon errors. If you aren't getting any netlogon errors about registering DNS
records, this isn't a DNS issue.

Thank you,
