active directory edits failing

various active directory tasks are coming up with errors of 'not enough
storage to complete this operation' errors ...

these are various tasks such as adding the user to groups, adding an
email smtp address, etc ....

ive seen this on my own workstation using sp4 adminpak a few weeks back,
which was solved by removing adding back into domain .. but ive now had
reports of it happening on a few w2k sp4 servers so more serious if our
AD is about to keel over.

its a single domain, less than 1000 users, multiple servers, multiple
sites - has a lot of security groups but would guess not enough for AD
to struggle ... does AD have specific limits?

where would AD be complaining about storage or is this a message that is
pointing to something else>=?

i havent got the correct wording or event logs yet until im back in
tomorrow.

Looks live a Virtual Memory error.

Get on the server that is giving this error and check the event logs.
Sometimes the SERVER service will crash and give a similar error.

A reboot will give you a short term fix, but you will need to investigate
and resolve. I've seen bad drivers cause instability such as this.

its looking like an issue with large number of groups and the kb:-

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/327825

may be a fix for it, its certainly worked on the 2 dc's and 1
workstation its been applied to so will see, its looking to be rolled
out across them all shortly.
