Do I use the Active Directory Connector to merge Distribution list and
Mail-enabled universal groups together.

No. The Active Directory Connector (ADC) is used to connect Active
Directory and Exchange 5.5 directory space together. During migration from
Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 200x, you should end up with names that have
revision numbers after it if an exchange 5.5 distribution list name matches
an existing security group in AD.

ps - there are two different flavors of the ADC. one comes with the
operating system and the other comes with exchange 200x.
