Active Directory and Novell E Directory

J

Jim Harris

I have been given a task to see if I can synchronize a
Novell E Directory with a Windows 2000 Active Directory.
We will keep both directories. I see Microsoft has MSDSS
but it looks like it runs with NDS. Do they have a new
version for E Directory? Or anything that would work with
E Directory?

Any help would be appreciated.

eDirectory is just a new marketing-hype-name for NDS - same product,
really. MSDSS should work okay, then there's Microsoft's MIIS as
mentioned by another user in this NG: Finally, there's a product that
used to be called "Synchronicity", by some ex-Novell folks - seems
it's NetVision's NVIdentity by now:

Happy hacking!

Marc,

Please check facts before dismissing a great piece of technology.

When eDirectory is taught in courses, the students work with 100 Million
User containers, and have trees that have more than 2 billion objects
- something that Active Directory can't come close to touching.

NDS / eDirectory has been out for over 10 years. Active Directory is
now in its' second revision.

Check out comparisons at www.iwantnetware.com and see for yourself, if
you can put your Redmond-colored sunglasses down for a while.

I use to get into the MS vs. Novell and MS vs. Linux battles on the net.
The thing about technology is that no one technology is right for
everything. A former boss told me there´s enough room here for
everything (´cept maybe Banyan Vines and StreetTalk - may they rest in
peace).
