Active Directory 2k3 Question

Hi,

I am playing around with creating an Active Directory on my Windows 2003
Server but I am a little confused. It insists on setting itself up as the
primary DNS server for my network which is fine, but my internet router (a
Draytek Vigor) is already sat on 192.168.0.1, acting as my DHCP and
forwarding on any DNS queries to the internet from the machines on my
network. I really want to be in the situation where AD does it's thing, all
of my machines are on the domain, but all of my machines can still access
the internet through my router. How do I do this? Do I simply give my
router another static IP and set all of my client machine's default
gateways to be that?

Will this then circumvent the DNS on my Win2K3 box? Ideally I suppose I
need to set my Win 2K3 box to be 192.168.0.1, have every machine's default
gateway be that box and then setup my Win2K3 box to then forward any
requests to the internet to my router. but I aint the foggiest idea how to
do this.

Can anyone point me towards any good Active Directory tutorials that could
help me answer my question.

Many Thanks

Richard

Not familiar with Draytek Vigor, but most routers can be configured to
exclude an IP address or range within the DHCP scope, and to give out a DNS
server address for a local server. You must:

1. Give your Win2003 DC a static IP address - any 192.168.0.x address not
assigned by DHCP to some other machine will do.

2. Configure the DNS service on the DC and have the DC point to itself for
DNS.

3. Have all clients point to the server for DNS.

4. You provide Internet name resolution by adding your ISP's DNS server
address on the Forwarders tab in the DNS console on your server.

5. Clients should continue to use the router address as their default
gateway.
