Active Directory 2000 to 2003 Update (With Exchange 2000 installed)

Javier Villegas

Hi.

I have a Windows 2000 (SP4) Active Directory (AD) with Exchange 2000 (SP3)
installed on all DCs.

I made a lab scenario for test the Windows 2003 Upgrade proccess. I execute
ADPREP in a Windows 2000 DC and then promote (DCPROMO) a new Windows 2003
installation in the existing AD.

When I run ADPREP /FORESTPREP and ADPREP /DOMAINPREP every go OK.

The problem is that KB314649 "Windows Server 2003 adprep /forestprep Command
Causes Mangled Attributes in Windows 2000 Forests That Contain Exchange 2000
Servers" said that I will find duplicates attributes that I did not found in
the lab upgrade

Is this possible ? (because the service pack) or I made something wrong

Thanks in advance

Javier

You must upgrade your Exchange 2000 Server to Exchaneg 2003 before you
upgrade your Windows Server 2000 to 2003 Server

Before you run ADprep /forestprep you should follow the steps outlined in
the KB314649. This will prevent you from getting the mangled attributes.
Not sure why you aren't seeing the problem attributes, but I would
definitely follow the KB steps before running the ADprep.

You can also run Exchange 2003 Forest prep before you do the ADprep and the
results should be the same.
