Active Desktop/Web Content backround

For some time, unknown origins, when the machine boots up
and loads its various files from startup directories (its
not there; they were taken out to troubleshoot) or reg
content, the screen is all white. If I do NOT show active
desktop, it goes away (turns to black); but also when I
look at display propertoies | appearance one discovers
that the entire screen is being covered by "Window' Item
in the list of designable items: icon, boarder width,
etc.) If one manually changes this color, the screen
follows suit. But this causes other problems. Then
mysterious after some period of time and ? happens, the
white background goes away on its own. There musty be
some reg value that is in there where it should not.

My advice: Turn off Active Desktop. I have seen nothing but problems with
it. If you have a particular JPEG you want to use as your background,
instead of enabling Active Desktop open the JPEG in Paint and do File | Save
As and choose .BMP. Then you can use it as a background without having to
enable Active Desktop. Save yourself some grief!
