Activation of XP

I have an HP NC6000 notebook and it was imaged using
Sysprep with an XP Pro OEM CD plus some apps (Office,
Winzip, etc). It has it's own product key and when it
reboots, it asks for the activation ID. However, when it
attempts to connect (to the internet), it fails.
However, pinging URL's work and internet connections
work. Also, Windows Update works. Only Activation
doesn't connect. Where in the registry is this
information set as this needs to be changed on a lot of
notebooks?
