Activation (OEM) LAN Problems

My setup is 4 computers and 2 printers connected to a modem/router/switch.
During the process of activating a new computer just now (phone call and
massive numbers) which was successful, corruption occurred to my LAN. But
the internet connection was never lost.
The newly activated computer is cut off from the others, apart from the
synchronized "Favorites" folder.
Network connection (thru router) has stayed up all the time and all pinging
from new computer is OK. I have just used Printkey to print out the XPINFO
screen which confirms tick in every box except processor serial no. I would
think this indicated it is not a router problem!
I have used all the wizards several times: no problems show.
I suppose it must be something to do with sharing but I have gone over all
that. Incidentally my drive D for example which was shared had the sharing
knocked off (weird), which I have now re-instated. File and printer sharing
is ON.
I am fairly conversant with LAN working, having endured the vagaries of W98
before, but this simple thing has already lost me a couple of hours.
Any ideas please?

And more.
I have a printer on LPT on one of my other computers. I have just shared it
and Added it to my new computer and printed a test page. So printers are
being shared if not files.

Start with the basics.

1. Confirm that you are using the same Workgroup name as your other
computers and that the name assigned does not duplicate one of the
existing computer names. (Control Panel - System - Computer Name)

2. Turn off the Windows Firewall and any third party firewall that
you may have installed. The NAT function in the router will protect
you, at least until the networking issues are resolved.

3. Check the i.p. addresses being assigned to the network computers
to confirm that they are all on the same subnet (first three segments
of the i.p. address the same for all machines) but that the 4th
segment is different. (Start - Run - CMD and then enter IPCONFIG)

Good luck

Thanks Ron.
Did all of these things as a matter of course.
When I switched on my computers after the weekend all problems had
disappeared. I definitley did nothing to bring this about. Nevertheless, I
am delighted even if I don't know why it has self-corrected.
