Hi!
I have downloaded Windows SP2 from this site.
And now i need to activate it.
But the question is : where to find the activation key?

P.S. Unfortunately, i'm late with it. And now i can't enter my sistem!!
Is there any way out?

Thanks in advance!

Activate SP2?? There's nothing to activate. You need to activate Windows,
not the service pack.

if you've gone beyond the thirty days, it should have actually told you
'you're out of time, activate now', and force you to do it on the spot when
the expiry time comes up.

Anastasia;
Activate in Safe Mode:
Reboot tapping F8 each second.
Select Safe Mode at the menu.
Log in as Administrator.

Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Activate Windows.
Follow the prompts and choose the option to activate by phone if internet
activation is unsuccessful.

Hi Andrew!

Sorry , not SP2 of course
You are right, i need to activate Windows.
And thirty days are already passed. I can easily open the window for
activation.
But i don't know where to find the key ...:(
that's the problem.

Thank you for reply

Hello Jupiter!

I did all these steps ..but i still can't activate Windows , because i can't
find the correct key. I have found one key in licence agreement but it
doens't work...i mean in the activation window they write that it's not
correct.
So , maybe you know ..where on my pc ..or anywhere else i can find the
activation key?!!!

Thank you for reply

Sorry, Anastasia, but you're still not making much sense. I assume that your
computer came with Windows XP already installed when you purchased it, and
you've not installed it yourself (because, if you had, you would have had
the installation key because you would have had to have entered it during
setup). You do *NOT* require the installation key for activation. To
activate online you simply follow the instructions.

1) Yes, let's activate Windows over the Internet now
2) Then you choose whether to register with Microsoft (entirely optional)

And that's it.

To activate by phone you call the activation number for your country
(selecting the correct choice from the drop down menu) and read out the
activation string to the representative. When the representative has
verified the string you have given them, they will give you another string
to enter in the boxes (labelled A-G if memory serves) - five numbers (and
it's all numbers) per box. You then click next and you're done. In some
countries (the UK for example) you it's all automatic and you're not
required to speak to anyone, unless the activation string you punch in isn't
recognised.

You do not need the installation key (which should be on the computer
chassis if OEM, or on a yellow sticker on the back of the folder the Windows
installation disc was in if retail) for activation.

If this isn't what you meant, could you please post back and clarify?

Hello!
Thank you very much for advice.
I have alredy did all this. I told the representative my installation ID
(it's 54 figures)
But she told that it's not correct ..or the service can't accept it.
So she could do nothing and failed to help me.
She told me to find out the activation key ..without it it's impossible to
activate my windows....

Very bad news for me. Coz i really don't know where to search for this key.

Thank you once again for your patience.

Well, then answer the question: where did you get the copy of XP
installed on your computer? Was it preinstalled by a local shop? Did a
"friend" give it to you? Is this an OEM machine from one of the big
computer mftr.'s like Dell, HP, Compaq?

Because the error that you are getting indicates that you don't have a
legal copy of XP.

Activation keys are not displayed. XP uses the CD Key to build the
activation request and then submits it to Windows Product Activation. If
you did do the activation by the web, then the activation key would have
automatically be 'applied' to your system.

However, now that the system refuses to let you in, you will need to
re-install XP in order for the activation delay to be reset. Usually a
repair re-install may be enough to fix this. However, any/every service
packs and hotfixes may need to be re-installed after the repair XP
re-install. It depends on which level of XP install CD you have.

I do not know of any sites where you can legally download Windows. I think
you may have downloaded a hacked/pirated version of Windows. If you paid for
it you are out the money. It is available for sale from online merchants but
they will ship a CD. If you are on a budget and can't afford to pay for an
OS you should look at Linux. The version at this link is as easy as any
version to install and use.

Um, the OP downloaded *SP2*, not Windows. Please read for content before
making a fool out of yourself and falsely accusing people of things they
didn't do.

Thank you,

The OP download Windows XP SP2? I was under the impression the just
downloaded the SP2, not the entire OS.

True, Fedora Core 3 is quite user friendly from what I hear. And
painless to install.

If you read all the posts it sounds like she downloaded Windows XP with SP2
updates slipstreamed. If she had just downloaded SP2 why would she have to
activate Windows? In any case without a valid product ID she needs a new OS.
I didn't accuse anyone of anything. If you read my post it says "may have".
This implies a mistake not a deliberate action.

Not even close, she specifically stated Windows SP2, and it sounds like
nothing more.

Dunno, but MS's PA is buggy anyway, so could be any number of things, other
than your suspicions. This isn't the first time either, that a service pack,
(possibly and) wrongly caused the the OS to be invalid, and caused (another
needless) required activation.
In any case without a valid product ID she needs a new OS. I didn't accuse

Yea, but you gave the impression of shoot first, and then ask questions,
when there shouldn't have been any hint of such by you. It wouldn't be a
surprise if she doesn't ask for help here anymore.

Here, I fixed that for you.

And please tell us what you meant when you said that you downloaded your
copy of XP. Were you serious? How much did you pay for this download? Who
was the vendor? Did you ever get a real XP disk from this vendor, of just a
download?

Tom, read all the posts.
This is from her second post. In case you did not notice, English appears
not to be her first language...
"Sorry , not SP2 of course
You are right, i need to activate Windows."

So, that isn't what Kerry quoted, and replied to, now is it? The fact that
Kerry made a reply based on SP2, and not the second post by Anastasia, is
what I countered. Stick to your day job, or learn to read what people post
to!
