Whenever I try to activate Windows Vista BETA 2 on my Compaq Presario X1000
laptop, I get the error, “"The product key you typed is already in use".
I’ve reinstalled Vista multiple times, and even reformatted my hard drive. I
immediately tried activating before installing any programs and still get the
same error. When I click “Type a different product key†and retype the key
exactly how it appears in the e-mail from Microsoft, it tells me that I have
an invalid key.
I know my key is valid and not already in use because after attempting to
activate it on my laptop, I used the exact same key on my desktop computer.
It worked perfectly. I have no idea why it isn’t working on my laptop. I
followed the steps at:

did not work. I also installed all of the most recent Windows Updates, but
that also didn’t help. Can somebody please help me, or tell me who I need to
contact to get help? Thank you.
