Activating Windows XP

Hi,
I originally bought my PC about 6 years ago, and it came preinstalled with
Windows XP. I've recently updated this with the service pack 3, in order for
me to be able to use I Tunes. Having done this, it is now asking me to
activate my windows. I have called the support line and typed in the number,
which then asks me to change the product key. To do this, i need the product
id number, but there is no certificate number on my pc, and i have misplaced
the original disk in the last 6 years. The support site says to speak to the
manufacturer, but i have no idea who this is as there is no make or model
number on my pc tower. Any ideas what i can do, because at the moment my pc
is just a grey box taking up room!

Hello Mick,

If the OP uses SIW, Belarc, Magical Jelly Bean, etc., the Product Key that
comes up will most likely be that of the OEM installation.

I really don't know the answer, but can XP Activation be successfully
accomplished by using an OEM image Product Key, rather than the unique
number that's generally affixed to the actual PC by the manufacturer?
