Activating hyperlink in Outlook produces "General Failure" messag

Whenever I click on a URL in an e-mail message I receive in Outlook 2007, I
get an error message that starts "General Failure," then gives the url of the
link and tells me it can't be opened. If I keep clicking the link eventually
comes up and opens in my browser (which is Firefox). This only recently
started happening. Is this Microsoft's reaction to the Firefox browser or
something equally zany?

I have a more precise quote of the mystery message. It is:

Microsoft Office Outlook
General failure. The URL was:
(what follows is the URL of the site to which the hyperlink pointed)
The system cannot find the file specified.
[OK]
