Not sure if anyone knows about ACT 6.0 but I was interested in ordering it
however I wanted to confirm something first...
Basically, it says on the website that it supports up to 10 users all
networking the same database but that each user needs to purchase a license.
I have 3 computers that access a server but I am only "one" user. Each
computer I'm sure has it's own "computer name" but I am trying to confirm
this program will work just by loading it onto each computer and that I will
not have to pay for 3 licenses.

Does anyone know how this works in general?

Doug

The Act v6 licenses are per user, not per machine. The 11th user will not be
allowed to connect. Be aware that the Act database will not take kindly to
being placed on a Novell NSS volume with XPpro+ clients. Microsoft OS's are
just fine, just be aware that you need to disable opportunistic locking to
prevent database corruptions.
Hope this helps, regards
Terry

You were lucky to that Terry happened to know an answer, because in a
newsgroup, as this one is, devoted to Questions and Answers about Microsoft
Access database software, it will only be happenstance if you find someone
to answer a question on another subject.

And, as all the microsoft.public... newsgroups are for Microsoft software, I
suspect you'd need to find either the ACT company's site or a USENET
newsgroup devoted to ACT.

He was lucky someone knew, but since Act was aquired by Sage from Symantec
its not easy to find newsgroups anymore.

I think we need to clarify some points here

Doug - when you refer to 10 user, are you sure you're not referring to
Act 8? Act 8 is capped at 10 users. If you want more than 10 users,
then you need ACT 8 Premium (workgroups.)

Act 6 supports more than 10 users out of the box, you just need to
purchase the correct number of licence keys from Sage.
You will need to purchase a licence for every person you want to log
into the database, because only one login at a time is permitted for
each licence you own. The key thing is you will only be able to use one
computer at a time with one licence, and not use any two concurrently.

Gary.
