ACT! must be installed... ERROR

I am getting the error " ACT! must be installed .... " error when trying to
use the import/conversion utilities in BCM 2007.

I have ACT 2005 installed and running well and BCM is installed with all the
updates. Alas, all my contact information is in ACT 2005.

I have tried running the conversion/import with both ACT not running and
running and get the same error.

The instructions for conversion & importing seem pretty straightforeward. I
have all the latest .net updates inluding 3.0 ( and I am aware that ACT
really doesn't "like anything higher than .net 1).

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Alas I found lots of problems with the conversions and some similar
instructions to ones I had seen, but no answers to this error.

One expert states that BCM asks ACT for the data, so both must be installed
(and running?), but ACT is so ill behaved ( I am being very kind with that
statment), that the conversion problems are not necessarily BCM's.

If anyon has encountered this error before, let me know.

I will also post any solution I find (from reinstall to reinstall on a
different machine for both applications for a "clean" start for both.
