ACT 7.0 import doesn't work

I'm hoping there are some smarter folks than I:

I installed BCM2007 and tried to do a data conversion of my ACT 7.0
database. All I can get is the error "The specified file is not a valid
database for the currently installed version of ACT (7). If the file is a
database from a prior ACT version, it can be upgraded by opening the
database in ACT." It does this after asking my user name for the db which
it apparently verifies so it does recognize the db on some level.
There is no question that the ACT db is a valid database and that it works
as I use it every day. It is also updated to the most recent update which I
think was 7.0.4.
Importing a CSV file is not an option because I can't export any of my notes
from ACT.
Does anyone have any idea how to proceed from here? Moving my entire office
to Office 2007 is obviously a non-starter if I can't migrate my business
contacts.
Thanks!

Does Microsoft have any response to this. I just purchased Office 2007 for
the sole purpose of being about to bring our ACT 2007 (v7) data in to BCM.
Needless to say I was surprised when the import failed with the same error
that Christopher is getting.

The basic problem appears to be that the last update for ACT 2007 was
7.0.4.82; however when you examine the database in the ACTDIAG tool it
indicates a Db version of 7.0.4.75. I'm guessing that this is what the
complaint is about but there is nothing the ACT user can do about it.

It would sure be nice if this problem were fixed!

We've been able to import the latest version of ACT! to BCM 2007 but the
version is 9.0, not 7.04. We tried first by copying just the ACT! database
onto the PC that had BCM on it but it wouldn't recognize the ACT! database.
So, we loaded ACT! and then tried and it worked fine.

In your case, I'm wondering if you have multiple users and some have 7.03
installed and others have 7.04 and that's why there's a disconnect in the
version number.

HTH,
Lon

Lon,

ACT is pretty particular about having users on different versions of the
database -- so we watch that closely here. Everyone is on the latest ACT 2005
release, which from what our Help About says is 7.0.4.82.

I've actually tried creating new empty databases and then exporting our data
to them -- still no good; same error message.

Thanks for the suggestions though...
