Use the cloning software available for free from the website of the
manufacturer of your hard drive. I have used Maxtor, Seagate, and Western
Digital's free tools and they work perfectly every time.

I have used "clonezilla live" (latest stable version available at
http://jaist.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/clonezilla/clonezilla-live-1.2.1-23.iso)
a couple of times, and have been quite satisfied with it. It has
several advantages. Don't have to install or copy anything on to your
harddisk: it is run from a bootable CD.
