Acrobat Distiller Hangs

When I try to print to Acrobat Distiller, it hangs during the printing
process. The failure occurs with either PDFMAker (in Word) or with printing
to the Distiller printer in all applications (Word, WordPad, NotePad, IE,
Eudora). The print job hangs without any output. I cannot cancel the job from
the distiller printer queue; it just hangs in the "deleting..." state. I have
to go to the task manager and end-task both the print job entries and the
Distiller entry.

Going back a few days with System Restore didn't help. If I were to try
going all the way back to the day of the last successful distiller run, I
will reintroduce other serious problems, which I don't want to do.

I am using Acrobat 5.0 and have been using it successfully for over 1.5
years before yesterday. I am running WindowsXP Pro with SP2. Distiller ran
successfully for several months after I installed SP2, so I don't think that
SP2 is a factor.

Eventually, I will try reinstalling Acrobat 5.0 but I am hoping that someone
can tell me more about the problem first.

System Restore effects only Windows System files not application files.

Try opening Acrobat 5 and go to Help menu. Acrobat 6 has a Repair options
on the Help menu. I think version 5 did also. If so, try a repair. If you
do not have a Repair option, suggest you uninstall and reinstall.

After the Repair or reinstall, go back to Acrobat Help and check for
updates.
