It is not possible to move between those 2 hals. This article although
discusses Windows XP and 2003 applies to Windows 2000 as well

| We are trying to reduce the number of images for our organization (500+
employees)
| At this time, we have 3 types of images (HAL):
| - Standard PC
| - Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) PC
| - ACPI Uniprocessor PC
| Is it possible to safely take a regular ACPI image, sysprep it and
| convert it to the ACPI Uniprocessor HAL ?
| I have seen some KB articles about replacing the hal.dll before
| the PC boots up...
| Does anybody have experience doing this ?
| If so, could you share ?
