Each time I attempt to defrag my hard drive, I receive a report at the end of
the process stating that AcGeneral.dll could not be defragmented. This file
is approximately 2mb. I have searched to microsoft site for help to no
avail. What is this file for? What will happen if I delete it?

I appreciate any help for thid matter.

I don't have that file on my Windows XP Professional. Where is it
located?

I suggest copy it to a USB memory stick and delete it from the HD. See
what happens. You might need to keep it like this for about a week to
be sure it is not a system required file.

Have you scanned your system for malware recently?

First of all, forgive me for an error that I made. The file is spelled
AcGenral.dll. It is located in a C:\Windows\AppPatch. I am running Windows
Home Edition.

Just leave it be. Or, if this really bugs you, then rename it. If no
problems in a week or so then delete it. On the other hand, the file
name *is* suspicious as its a 9+3 and most legit .dlls are 8+3 and dont
have caps in the middle, so it might be part of spyware or a trojan.

I don't know if you read my previous pst, but the correct spelling is
AcGenral.dll. It is located in C:\Windows\AppPatch. The properties show
that is it a Microsoft file. When I try to delete it, I am told that I don't
have access, even though I am logged on as the Administrator.

Bert Nelson,a PC Review member is looking for a copy of this .dll file.Maybe he knows what it's for.If you can't do anything else with it maybe you can drag and drop it into a new folder.I would run chkdsk on the drive. vbmenu_register("postmenu_11843932", true);
