accountig format in Excel 2007

Hello,

we have a huge problem with importing txt file to excel, where numbers are
like 1.555 and excel identify it as a text cell. This can be easily solved by
taking "." out.
But when there is 1.555- (negative number), after clearing "." it remains
stil 1555- as a text file. When there is a negativ number lower then 1.000,
it goes well. The problem is the option during the import is not saved, when
I change it.

As we have now close booking and we work mainly with these imported files,
it is time consuming and demotivating.

Is any solution than saving it as a csv file and then open it again?

Thank you very much

Hi,

when you import text files Excel's wizard automatically convert trailing
minuses to negative numbers.

Also, on the last step of the wizard you can select all the columns that are
text but which you want as numbers and indicate they are number by making
sure Text is not selected.

Without a sample showing the problem it's hard to give you more help.

Hi Shane,

I do it in the same way as in Excel 2003, where I used the wizard with the
further possibility to set " ." separates thousands. I did not used Text/Date
format, it remained the default setting.
But in this new Excel it takes only the default settings and I cannot change
it (it does not remain there, when I open it again even before finishing the
wizard).

I have tried it on more PCs with the Czech version of Office 2007, but
without any change.

original number in txt imported
82.920,62- 82.920,62-....text format
820,62- -820,62 .... OK
82.920,62 82.920,62 .... con be solved with
taking "."
820,62 820,62....OK

Maybe I can send you a text file, when you answer me on (e-mail address removed)

Thanks a lot

Hi,

You can try this

1. Select an empty cell and click Copy.
2. Select the numbers that are text
3. Choose Edit, Paste Special, Add
