Account Locked Out

J

Joe Paganini

Hi everyone,

We are running Windows 2000 server. I had a user in our
network with a problem opening an application that is
stored on the server. He tried to close down but came up
with a not responding error. He hit the reset button on
the machine and tried to log back in to the network. He
attempted to log on but got the message that access was
denied.

I went back and looked at his account and it was locked
out. He said that he did not misspell the password.
What is the default number of times for an account lock
out? Also, would there be any reason for this to just
happen? He is running Win98 on the work station.

Thanks.

Hi Joe-

The accout lockout policy is defined by the adminstrators who create the
domain. It is usually different for everyone. The default policy enabled by
default is 3 bad passwords I think. You need to check your Default Domain
Policy in your domain to review your settings.

Open ADUC, Right click your domain.name.com, select properties, click Group
Policy Tab, Highligh Default Domain Policy and select Edit, navigate to
Account Policies, and look at Account Lockout Policy
