Accidentally deleted ALL accounts from Win XP -- Help on recovery of
old settings....Help!

Hey all..

To make a long story short, I went into user accounts in control
panel, and deleted al but the admin accounts. Well, after that i
could still use the "Matt" user enviornment -- until i reset, that is.
After the computer reset, the only name that it allowed to log into
windows with was "administrator". It was then that i realized that i
deleted ALL user accounts. It asked for an administrator password,
and I don't remember ever setting one -- i was stuck! I found that i
could log in safemode and create a new admin account. I did this, and
am not on a new admin account called "MATT". yes, i lost all
settings, but i was happy to be back in my system. Now my question
is, is there ANY way to revert back to that old MATT username. I
noticed that in one area, there are 3 user accounts MATT/admin,
MATT/admin,user, and Unknown Account. I am thinking that the unknown
account may be the old one i was using. I found these account types
while digging around. Other than that, the only name that shows at
start up to choose from is the new one i created... System restore
was turned off, by the way. Is there any way to get the original user
account back?

Also, other than resetting the settings, was anything done to the
computer that i should re-format for? I mean, it didnt do anything
weird to the hardderive, or make the computer unstable or anything
like thta -- did it?

I am sure this is confusing,

Thanks,

Matt

A friend of mine coined this great saying which so far has proven right 100 times out of 100. "There are only two types of computer users: those have have lost data, and those who will"! Guess which category I fell into?

I'd suggest that you take a look at the "CNET" site. (that's all you need to type into your search). I found they had quite a few well recommended data recovery programs and other helpful utilities. Many apps are free to try and are rated by user popularity, often accompanied by a CNET writer revue. If you're already wise to the site why not pop in for a refresher? If it's news to you bust a move and check it out. Good luck!
