Accessing Windows Encrypted Files

Today I formatted my OS harddrive and I have a few files on another drive with sensitive information, about 3 total and less than 1kb each in size, that were encrypted using the Windows XP encryption. Now I am unable to access these files at all or even attempt to enter my old password to decrypt them.

I really need this information back from these files. Is there anyway I can get the information back? I know the old user account name and the password for that account if that helps out at all.

Just move the encrypted files to a Fat/ Fat32 based hard drive, or to a compressed NTFS file folder.
