After finding it impossible to log on to a Windows XP
hard disc I was advised to reinstall the system. I am now
trying to back up files from this disc before this
reinstallation. To do this I have put the disc into
another computer. I can see the disc but cannot copy
files created in the user accounts (in the Documents and
Settings folder). I get an access denied message. Does
anyone know how I can access/copy these files?h

"Take ownership" of the root of the disk and propagate it down to all
subfolders and files. Read in Help and Support about how to take
ownership for your version of XP.
