Accessing Files on a Corrupted Drive that's not bootable

I reacently had a hard drive fail on me, however I have quite a bit of data
that's salvegeable on the drive, and by simply setting the drive as a slave
on another computer, I was able to pull out alot of my files. The only
problem is in the document's and settings folder where I had my user profile
locked from other users. It was the only locked user folder and since I can
access other user folders that wern't locked, I'm hopeful I can get tot he
data there but I get the dreaded folder is inaccesible message!

I have the original user name and password, so that wouldn't be a problem...
I just don't know how to access the data or where the user name and password
would help. I can possibly reinstall XP pro over it, but I'm afraid to
overwrite the documents and settings folders and loose the old user folder I
need. I currently have the drive set up as a slave drive and have full
access to everything on that drive except my old user folder.

Any help would be appreciated!

You need to take ownership of the files. Take a look here for
the procedure:

How to take ownership of a file or folder in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308421

Note: If you are running Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, you
must start the computer in safe mode, and then log on with an
account that has Administrative rights to have access to the
Security tab. To start in Safe Mode, reboot your computer and
start tapping the F8 key as soon as you see anything displayed
on the screen. Keep hitting F8 until the Advanced Startup
Options menu appears. Use the up and down arrow keys on your
keyboard to select Safe Mode. Hit Enter.

Good luck
