accessing a computer which uses a router

my work pc has xp pro, and is part of my office network
which uses a router. The IP is static. I can access the
computer if I connect it directly to the cable modem, but
when it goes through the router, I cannot access it. Any
suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

For Remote Desktop forward TCP Port 3389 through the router to the private LAN IP of the target PC.
Call using the public IP of the router.
