I have recently updated to a new laptop with XP
professional. My access files were saved in Windows 98
and will not open or convert to XP pro. Does anyone know
how to get around this so the file will convert and open?

Bruce,
What version of Access were you using on Win98? What version of Access are you using on XP? Normally with an Access version change, you may not be able to update the .MDB, but at least you should be able to open the file and convert (upgrade) it. Of course if you "downgraded" Access versions, e.g. Access 2002 (Office XP) to Access 2000, then you won't be open the file.

Bruce, the way your post reads you do not have Access installed on the Win
XP box. Access is an application program that you must purchase either as a
standalone product or with Office Professional product. It is not, and has
never been, included in the operating system Windows.

If you have the original setup disks for the 98 machine, you may be able to
find the application program there. BTW, you also won't have Word, Excel or
PowerPoint installed unless they came with the new machine.

Install Access on the new laptop.
