access to repair console during broken install

Does anyone know how to get into the repair console when a "repair" install
breaks? I haven't set a new password, and my old doesn't seem to work, so
I don't know how to get in.
Basically, I have a system that needed a "repair" of an existing XP
install. During the repair, it came up with the famous unknown entry point
in msdart.dll. I got a new msdart.dll from dll-files.com, but can't get
into the repair console to copy it in. I can't get past this point in the
repair, and if I try to restart the repair all over, it doesn't see the
install and just tells me I need to reinstall from scratch, which I'd
rather not do :),

Thanks,
Greg

Hi Greg,

See if the information in this MSKB article, "'The Password Is Not
Valid' Error Message Appears When You Log On to Recovery Console in
Windows XP" is helpful in resolving the problem:

Regards,

Thanks Patti - I hadn't seen that article. I did get past the problem by
using a bootable CD created on another system with BartPE. Nice utility,
and it let me build a specific boot disk with msdart.dll on it so I could
immediately copy the new file over. Once it had the new msdart, it
finished the repair install just fine. If only the repair install had
fixed the problem . . . but that's probably OT here :).

You're welcome, Greg. I'm glad that you found a way to get past the problem
:)
