My cousin who lives in a different town has a website for his company and he
needs help with it. I want to help but we don't know how I can get a copy
from his FrontPage to mine so I can work on it without disturbing his actual
website. Then I have to get the changed website back to him to view before he
uploads it. Is there a way we can do this?

Create a new empty site on your machine, give it a name and close it.
Then open the live site in FrontPage, log on when prompted and then click File > Publish site
and publish the site back to your new empty web.

After you make the changes, publish the site on your machine, to a different location such as your desktop.
Zip the folder that is created and email it to your cousin.

Your cousin can then unzip the folder and then open the uzipped web in FrontPage,
or simply double click index.htm and view it in his browser.

Thank you Steve, could my cousin do the same, publish to his desktop, zip it
and send it to me? Thank way he doesn't have to send me his log-in
information and I won't be messing with his on-line published site.

Hi again, my cousin tried to zip his website, it was still 74 MB after
zipping and his Outlook took 30 minutes then crashed, so he is unable to send
it to me and even if I download it from his service provider I will probably
not be able to send it back to him via email. Any other suggestions?

His website is based on frames and he has many pages, would he be able to
break it up and send me separate pages that he could 'knit' back together
once I have finished?

Personally, if there are only a few things you need to do to it, I'd
get his login info and work on the site "live", not really a need for
a local copy on your machine. If by some chance you really muck it up,
just have him publish his local copy back to the server (changed pages
only) and start over again...

If there are lots of changes needed, I'd login to his live site via
Front Page, publish it down to my computer, make the edits, create a
subweb (www.hisdomain.com/test, publish the edited files to that URL,
have him approve/disapprove your work, then go from there. If and when
all is as he wants it to be, publish to www.hisdomain.com and delete
www.hisdomain/test

Thanks, his site is very large and it needs a lot of work and I'm not sure
his provider has given him enough space to have both my working copy and his
website uploaded at the same time.

Would it be practical to publish his web site to a DVD and mail it to him?

You could do that - publish to a folder on your hard drive.
Delete all the folders with names starting _vti from the new folder -
there is at least one such folder in every folder in the website. _vti*
folders are NEVER published from web to web - they are created and
maintained by the FrontPage and the extensions.

Also delete _vti_inf.html and postinfo.htm from the root folder if they
exist.
Then burn the rest to a DVD or CDR.

Your colleague would then copy the DVD contents to a folder on their
hard drive, and open in FrontPage. FP will convert this folder to a
web.

....and, since the contents of the DVD or CD will most likely be read only,
he'll have to convert them once they are on the hard drive.
