Access Problems Using Router

I have a desktop PC on XP and am using DSL service. I
recently added a wireless router (Netgear MR814V2) to
accomodate a new Dell notebook PC using a wireless PC card
(MA401). The desktop is connected by wire to the
router. Initially, it seemed for several days that
everything was OK; however, now my desktop PC will not
connect to: (1) my hotmail inbox or (2) the Windows
update site. I don't get an error message, it just sits
there doing nothing. If I disconnect the router and run
from the DSL modem directly to the desktop, everything
works OK. I've downloaded and installed all available XP
updates and installed the latest router firmware from the
Netgear site. Does anyone else have this problem and
know how might I fix it?

Try un-installing the desktop's Ethernet adapter in Device Manager and
letting XP re-install it.

If that doesn't fix the problem, try this:

1. Find the right MTU setting on the desktop, as shown here:

2. Make the setting manually, or use DrTCP to make it:

Steve - I reset the MTU to 1492 and now everything works OK. Thanks
for the advice. - Regards - Jerry
