router working but lose internet access

I have a netgear wireless router serving both a desktop PC and a notebook.
The notebook seems to always work fine but the desktop has intermittent
trouble with its internet connection.
The computer always shows an excellent connection to the router.
The router (with inbuilt modem) always shows a connection to the internet
The desktop connects to the internet and then intermittently the computer
can not find the internet - any ideas why??
Its corrected by turning the computer off and back on.
Windows firewall is disabled. McAfee firewall on but doesn't seem to interfere
Installed netgear software on both notebook and desktop. Don't know how to
correct this daily disruption - help please!

Find out if you are actually losing connectivity. Use PingPlotter, and see if
that's happening.

When you lose access, if not a connectivity problem, check for a DNS problem.

Thanks Chuck
DNS ok, pings okay. Actually solved it by accident (ish) tried to upgrade
the driver on my netgear WG111v2 wireless adaptor. The upgrade was a bit
disasterous in that my computer crashed. Recovered it but it took out my
antivrus. To get things rolling again i uninstalled the drivers etc
(although to start with the set up file was corrupt so it couldn't initate
the uninstall) and reinstalled it. This appears to have solved my problem and
everything seems to now be working fine.
Thanks for everyone's help

woof!
