Access Permissions in XP Pro

I want to share a folder and give write access to anyone,
but with password protection. I plan to put the password
in the folder's comments tag: i just need superficial
password protection to stop the viruses dumping stuff in
the share. How do i do this?
Also, is there a way i can limit the size to which the
folder can grow, aside from putting it in a seperate
partition?

Hi, Allen -

I'm afraid this isn't possible with Windows XP. Although
you could assign a password to shared resources in
WinME/98/95 the security model in Windows XP is geared
toward user-level, rather than share-level security. In
Windows XP you create a share and grant or deny
privileges to the *user* - password-protecting a folder
isn't an option, I'm afraid.

On your second question - you can't exactly set a folder
size in Windows XP, but in XP Professional you can set
disk quotas. Let's say you create a user that only needs
to access the folder we're talking about - if you set a
disk quota for that user he won't be able to write to the
disk once his quota's been reached - and if he only has
access to one folder that just might do what you're
looking for.

To see what I'm talking about, right-click your hard
drive in XP Professional and select Properties -->
Quotas. This feature isn't available in XP Home, I'm
afraid.
