Access Network Resources over VPN

J

Josh Agostino

Here's my situation...any help would be appreciated.
I am the network administrator for a small company running ONE windows 2000
server. This server currently does the following (I know its a little much
for one machine to handle...but its alright): Active Directory DC, DNS,
DHCP, WINS, IIS for Web and FTP, Exchange Server, and a router for VPN.

The problem is, when I connect to the VPN from another computer, I can't
access any of the network resources. NOTHING. The client authenticates,
gets an IP, etc....but I type in an ip to go to on the internal network, and
it wont resolve.

Here are my server settings:
ONE network card, 10.0.0.1, 255.0.0.0, Router 10.0.0.2 (this is WAN
connection/internet).
I have the Routing and Remote access panel setup with the VPN wizard. DHCP
Relay is enabled, and set to relay to 10.0.0.2. There are routes in the
table to ensure that internet works from inside (hence the route is made to
10.0.0.2 because I have the default gateway set as so).

I have 10 PPTP ports enabled. Like I said, connections are being made and
authenticated....

The remote router to the WAN/internet is set to forward GRE port 47 and
TCP/UDP 1723 to 10.0.0.1---so that isn't the problem.

I've tried changing the default gateway on the server to 10.0.0.1, and then
adding a static route for 0.0.0.0/0.0.0.0 to 10.0.0.2, but this still
doesn't solve the remote connectivity issues.

Any ideas?? PLEASE.

Thank You,

Joshua Agostino

The default gateway on the server should be 10.0.0.2

What is the client's IP pool? Make sure the IP addresses that are given to
the client are in the same subnet as 10.0.0.x

Thanks for the advice, however, the clients are in the same subnet of
addresses (though they are assigned to subnet 255.255.255.255 when connected
to the VPN, instead of 255.0.0.0 like the rest of the net)...and i've tried
the configuration with the default router being 10.0.0.2....still, nothing..

Thanks,

Joshua Agostino
