Access Locking Up

Recently in order to continue running a query even if the linked excel file
is opened by other users, I shared the excel workbook under the shareworkbook
function in excel.

Everything seems to be working fine.

However, I bumped into some trouble where Access locked up one of the excel
file and one of the table yesterday. No one could access the files until the
server hosting the whole Access database is restarted.

Also, another problem I had is, it was said one excel file was unexpectedly
locked up in excel.

Why are these problems occuring?

Could the problem arise because the whole Access db is located on the server
and I didn't spilt the Access into Front End and Back End?
