access lockfile

Several times a day, Access gets lock-up and I have to get
all users logout of database, then only delete
access.lockfile.9, then reopen access, it comes up with
message like "user closed database while access was
already open" and it repairs the database so people can
get back in. This is happening more and more frequently
now. Can somebody help resolve the lockfile issue? Does
anybody know why this happens???

I would guess that there are numerous things that could
cause this, but I will pass along a few things that
drastically reduced the frequency of problems for our own
groups network database.

According to MS, and our own experience, it is very
important for all users to have the same version of the
Jet Database Engine. The Jet Database Engine can be
updated independent of the version of Windows or Access.
If you have two users using different versions of office
and windows, but the same version of Jet, you will likely
have less problems than if they have the same setup but
different versions of Jet. The most current version is
Jet 4.0 SP8. You can read about it at:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;Q239114

Another thing that I noticed with our group is that it
seemed to cause problems if users closed Access without
first closing the form and database. I asked all of our
users to be sure to close the form and the application
before closing out Access.

The combination of these two things have almost
completely eliminated our instances of database
corruption. Not sure if they will take care of your
problem, but thought I would pass it along. Maybe others
will post additional ideas.

For more information on corruption including possible causes,

We used the one listed under Win XP at the link that I
included in the earlier message. I would guess that it
works for Pro and Home versions, they really should have
specified. But, we have not had any problems on our XP
Pro systems.
