What is the file access.lockfile.9?

I have an access 2000 database on a server. Everytime the user opens the
database a file opens that says access.LockFile.9. When she closes the db
the file also closes. However today the file didnot close and she was locked
out of the db.

It a locking file Access needs to keep track of who is on and who is using
which part of the database.

If you are sure that there are no ther users using the database, you can
simply delete this file (NOT the MDB file) and she should be able to get
back on.

The server may not allow you to delete this file since it is likely to be
marked as "open" on the server. In this case, you will need network admin
to force-close the file before you can delete it.

See the following Microsoft KB article:

Introduction to .ldb files in Access 2000
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/208778

All users must have RWCD privileges on the folder. If any user does not have delete privilege,
and they are the last one out of the database, then the lock file will not be automatically
deleted. Another possible cause listed in this article is a slightly corrupted database. Now
would be a really good time to make a back-up of this .mdb file. If you continue to experience
symptoms that indicate possible corruption (ie. .LDB file that is not always deleted), then check
out Allen Browne's suggestions:

Preventing corruption

You can also find lots of information on Tony Toew's web site regarding corruption.
http://www.granite.ab.ca/search.htm ---> enter corruption in the top search box.
