Access 2000 LockFile Problems

Where can I find info about how to avoid and resolve
lockfile problems? I use a moderately complex Access 2000
Database system on a Windows XP computer. Very frequently
the lockfile (.ldb file) fails to close upon exit, and the
program refuses to re-open until I try this and that and
finally get it repaired or replaced from a backup. This
is a very serious problem, and I have been unable to find
good information about what causes it, how to avoid it,
and how to fix it when it happens.

This may scare a lot of people, but I would like to know
the problem with it. I go into Windows Explorer and
delete the ldb file. I have been able to delete other
people's as well. What damage am I doing to my database?

This is actually a corruption problem. The lockfile being present is
left behind whenever Access crashes.

For more information on corruption including possible causes,
determining the offending PC, retrieving your data, links, official MS
KB articles and a list of vendors who state they can fix corruption
see the Microsoft Access Corruption FAQ at
